Loyalty cards for barbers

A good barber keeps clients for years. The loyalty is already there. What a loyalty card adds is a reason to come back a little sooner, and a nudge when someone starts drifting to the shop around the corner.

How barbershop clients visit

Clients come back every few weeks, some booked, some walking in. The price of a haircut is usually fixed, and the service is the reason they return, not a product on a shelf. Many clients have their own barber and will wait for that chair.

The risk is not a small bill; it is a gap. When a regular misses one visit, it becomes easy for them to miss the next one as well.

A suggested card setup

A visit card fits a barbershop best, because every visit counts the same:

  • Card type: visits, one per visit, whatever the service.
  • Reward: a free haircut after 5 visits, given on the next one. If a free cut feels too generous, make it half price.
  • A cheaper alternative: a free beard trim or hot-towel shave, which costs you time rather than stock.
  • Reward name: “Free haircut”, short and clear on the card.

If you also sell products such as wax or beard oil, keep them off the card at first. A visit card is easiest when there is nothing to calculate.

Reminders that help

A barbershop lives on regular visits, so the reminders that watch for gaps do the most work:

  • We miss you: sent by default after 21 days without a visit. For a barbershop this is the most useful reminder of all.
  • Gone very quiet: after 60 days, one last friendly message to a client you may be losing.
  • Reward waiting: a free haircut that has been ready but unclaimed for 14 days.
  • Birthday treat: on the client’s birthday, sent when you open.

Messages respect your opening hours and a gap between messages, 3 days by default, so nobody feels chased. Your own messages can include the client’s first name, for example: “Ali, it’s been a while. Fancy a trim this week?”

At the chair and at the till

Barbers don’t need a shared till. Each barber can log in on their own phone, scan the client’s card when the cut is done and confirm the visit. There is no amount to type. If the client’s phone is flat, the barber finds them by name.

Each visit records which barber added it, so a client’s history shows who they keep coming back to. When a free haircut is due, the barber sees a confirmation first, and can undo the claim for 2 minutes if the wrong client was picked.

By default the same card can’t earn again within 30 minutes, so one haircut never counts twice. If a barber adds an unusual number of visits by hand, a notice appears on the Home page of your dashboard. On iPhone the client sees “+1 visit” on the lock screen and knows straight away how close the free haircut is.

Loyalty for everyone.
